In this book chapter we show which visualization techniques already exist for exploring eye tracking data. Due to the vast amounts of generated trajectories during eye tracking experiments novel techniques have to be developed. Traditional heatmaps or gazeplots are time-aggregated or line-based plots suffering of visual problems such as visual clutter and cannot provide a good overview of the eye gaze data on a spatio-temporal basis.
In this book chapter we show novel ideas implemented in our visualization group and also together with Gennady and Natalia Andrienko from Fraunhofer Institute. These ideas can be seen as a step forward to overcome some of the drawbacks of existing eye tracking data visualization techniques.
